Message from the Principal I, Malith Kumarasinghe, Principal of SLSM pens down these words with great pride and humility. I consider it both an honour and privilege to be the Principal of a school with a great history and many achievements over the last three decades. SLSM focuses on developing balanced individuals with confidence and can think critically to achieve excellence. The school’s motto goes as “unity, courage and wisdom”, all three key facets required for the success of any community or society. With a humble beginning in the late eighties, it now boasts of a student population of over 1200, 65 teachers and an illustrious alumnus who have achieved excellence and honour in different spheres in various parts of the world. It has a vast range of academic subjects, sports and other activities which leads to not only knowledge, but the development of 21st century competencies which are vital for students to succeed in today’s ever evolving competitive world. Over the years its students and teachers with the support and encouragement of all its stakeholders have achieved excellence in academics, in examinations where many a top in the world and Oman produced and numerous outstanding sporting victories achieved. In addition to these the contribution it makes towards preservation of Lankan culture and heritage is unparalleled. SLSM can be considered almost as a holy shrine of reverence and a national or even a global educational heritage. We all must ensure its long-term continuity as it is the only Sri Lankan community school in Oman and many lives and careers are intertwined with it consequently. We can conclude that it is the fabric that binds the entire Lankan community of Oman. I as the Principal of SLSM looks forward to with much enthusiasm and vision to take the school to next phase by enhancing pedagogy, developing sports and other activities with a professional outlook, augmenting academic delivery via pragmatic utilization of productive education related technology, embedding industrial developments where appropriate, increasing both physical and other resources, improved psychological and career counselling as well increased training and development. All this will be done while we preserve the culture and history of our motherland without compromising the opportunity of students and the wider community to be in touch with our roots. Further I intend on developing and implementing a strategic plan to improve leadership, quality, data management and health and safety of students and teachers to achieve greater heights of performance. To this end I seek from you all your continuous blessings, understanding and support! The children of SLSM have proven to the world that we can achieve greatness by putting aside all gender, religious, racial, political or any other traditional differences and bias that have kept people apart for so long in other places and communities. Let us pledge to help them to preserve this amazing culture where all are welcome within the halls of SLSM to learn, live and grow with happy memories that will last a lifetime! I end my brief message by inviting you all to join hands with us at SLSM to be a part of truly magical journey and be accepted as family irrespective of who or where you are from. We hope that you will come along in some way to experience the magic that we do, each day! Thank you!
