Improve with us.[\/gt3_custom_text][gt3_spacing height=”42px”][vc_column_text]E<\/span>ntering Senior School and Key Stage 3 is a memorable experience in the life of every child, and here at The Sri Lankan School Muscat we strive to ensure that our students begin this important stage in their education in a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment.
\nThe first change students will see is that each subject is taught by a specialist, so that each child has access to a wide range of educational expertise and teaching styles. New subjects are also introduced such as Drama in Year 7. In Year 9, Chemistry, Biology and Physics take the place of General Science in order to best inform each student about their future IGCSE choices.
\nStudents at the SLSM benefit from regular, varied homework and clear, targeted feedback, and they are always encouraged to become independent learners and risk-takers. Merits and Commendations are regularly awarded in recognition of students\u2019 hard work, effort and determination.[\/vc_column_text][gt3_spacing height=”25px”][vc_column_text]Apart from enjoying a new and exciting academic programme, students entering Key Stage 3 will have many opportunities to embrace co-curricular challenges and to enhance their social and inter-personal skills. A wide variety of clubs are on offer, from basketball to orchestra, chess to photography. There are also countless opportunities for public speaking, from joining Junior Debate Club to addressing peers in assemblies, or becoming part of our Student Voice. Moreover, students are encouraged to build upon their skills of teamwork, as well as take on leadership roles \u2013 perhaps in CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) projects or in Inter-House sports competitions.<\/p>\n

Here at the SLSM, we also place great importance on nurturing students\u2019 social awareness and sense of personal and collective responsibility. For example, every term our Key Stage 3 tutor groups run Bake Sales to raise funds for their House charities; last year Key Stage 3 students also organised and ran some very fruitful fundraising events such as charity football tournaments and school discos.<\/p>\n
