THE UNITY CUP 2025/26 - Beyond the Classroom
Cricket Tournament
On July 2026, SLSM proudly hosted "The Unity Cup" – Beyond the Classroom Cricket Tournament 2025/26 at the Padel Futsal Courts, bringing together students, staff, and members of the Board of Directors for an unforgettable evening of cricket, camaraderie, and school spirit.
Originally initiated by the Year 13 Batch of 2025/26 and organized under the supervision of the SLSM Sports Department, the tournament aimed to strengthen teacher-student relationships, promote teamwork, and create meaningful connections beyond the classroom.
Six teams competed in an exciting T5 (5-over) format, showcasing outstanding sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the event. After a thrilling series of matches, the Grade 13 Team emerged as the champions, defeating the Grade 10 Team in a highly competitive grand finale. The Grade 10 Team finished as worthy runners-up. The evening also featured a friendly exhibition match between the SLSM Staff Team and the Board of Directors Team, with the Staff Team securing the win.
The event concluded with an award ceremony celebrating the achievements of all participants and the true spirit of unity that the tournament represented.
A heartfelt thank you to the Board of Directors, Principal, staff members, Year 13 organizing committee, students, and parents who contributed to making this event a remarkable success.

The Valedictory Ceremony of the Class of 2026
On 29th June 2026, Sri Lankan School Muscat proudly hosted the Valedictory Ceremony for the Class of 2026, celebrating the students’ years of hard work, dedication, perseverance, and lasting friendships as they prepared for a new chapter in their lives.
Held at the school auditorium, the ceremony began with a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, Principal Dr. Daminda Kulatunga, Secretary of the Board of Directors Mr. Mahesh Dissanayake, and the distinguished members of the Board of Directors. The graduands then entered to proud applause from parents, teachers, and well-wishers, creating a memorable and emotional atmosphere.
The event featured a graceful Pooja Dance, invoking blessings upon the graduands and everyone present.
Valedictorian Visal Fernando delivered an inspiring speech, reflecting on the memories, friendships, challenges, and achievements of the Class of 2026 while expressing heartfelt gratitude to the teachers, parents, and all who supported their educational journey.
The Chief Guest and the Advanced Level Sectional Head congratulated the graduands on their resilience, achievements, and commitment to excellence, encouraging them to embrace future opportunities with confidence, integrity, and determination.
The celebrations also included musical performances by members of the graduating class, showcasing their talents and entertaining the audience.
As the evening concluded, the graduands bid an emotional farewell to their beloved alma mater, their second home for the past fifteen years, while looking ahead with excitement and optimism for the opportunities and challenges to come.
A special highlight of the ceremony was the Live Photo Booth, where graduands captured joyful moments and cherished memories that will remain lasting reminders of this milestone celebration.

Inter-House Debating Competition 2025/26 – Senior Category
The Senior Category of the Inter-House Debating Competition 2025/26, organized by the Department of English, was held on 30th June 2026. The Chief Guest was Mr. Maxwell Kieegal, Head of Chancery at the Sri Lankan Embassy in the Sultanate of Oman. The event was attended by the Honorary Chairman, Board of Directors, teachers, and parents.
Students from all four houses displayed confidence, critical thinking, persuasive speaking, and strong debating skills through well-structured arguments and effective rebuttals.
Topaz House emerged as the Senior Category Champions, with Ruby House as First Runner-Up and Emerald House as Second Runner-Up. Sapphire House also participated enthusiastically and delivered commendable performances.
Farzan Ahmed Khan of Topaz House was named Best Speaker for his outstanding confidence, delivery, and persuasive arguments.
The Chief Guest shared his experiences as a school debater and offered valuable debating tips, while the Principal encouraged students to continue developing their communication and critical thinking skills.
The judges praised all participants for their dedication and performance. The Department of English thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the event and congratulated all participants and winners on their achievements.
Fairwell Batch Trip 2026 - A Journey to Remember
As our graduating Class of 2026 prepares to embark on a new chapter in life, they came together for a memorable day of celebration, friendship, and reflection at the Farewell Batch Trip, held on 24 June 2026 at La Mesa Farm, Al Barka.
Set amidst the tranquil surroundings of the farm, the event provided the perfect opportunity for students to relax, bond, and create lasting memories with their classmates and teachers. The day was filled with exciting activities, including billiards competitions, indoor games, swimming sessions, and a variety of fun-filled recreational activities that kept everyone engaged and entertained.
As the evening unfolded, students enjoyed a delightful BBQ, with many actively participating in the grilling, while music, singing, and dancing added to the joyful atmosphere. Laughter, teamwork, and shared experiences made the occasion truly special, strengthening the bonds formed throughout their school journey.
More than just a trip, this gathering was a celebration of friendships, achievements, and the unforgettable experiences that have shaped the Class of 2026. It was a fitting farewell to their school years and a meaningful reminder that while paths may diverge in the future, the memories created together will always remain close to their hearts.

Colors Nite 2026 – A Celebration of Sporting Excellence
The Department of Sports proudly hosted Colors Nite 2026 on 17 June 2026 at the School Auditorium, celebrating the outstanding sporting achievements of our students during the 2025–2026 academic year.
The memorable evening was graced by His Highness Sayyad Thaimur Bin Faisal Al Said, Director of Oman Air and Senior Executive Director of IDDI Company, as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by the Chairman and members of the Board of Directors, as well as the parents of the colour recipients, whose presence added to the significance of the occasion.
A total of 41 student athletes were honoured for their dedication, commitment, and exceptional performances in sports:
• 12 Color Bands
• 5 Junior Colors
• 24 Senior Colors
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Oryx Award (2025/26), the highest recognition for sporting excellence in the school. The award was presented by the Chief Guest to Aditha Hewa Dewage, Tomalya Hewa Dewage, Sethmina Devin, Dulina Hirun Fernando, and Himesh Raj Ravindra for their outstanding achievements in sports.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal congratulated all colour recipients and commended their hard work and dedication. He also expressed his sincere appreciation to the Board of Directors, coaches, sports staff, teachers, and parents for their invaluable support in nurturing and developing the school’s sporting talent.
The evening was further enriched by mesmerizing performances by the school’s dance troupes, adding colour and excitement to the celebration. In recognition of their commitment and contribution, the coaches were presented with special tokens of appreciation. The event also acknowledged the efforts of all Teachers-in-Charge (TICs) of sports, who were invited on stage for a group photograph in recognition of their dedicated service.

A special assembly was held on 16 June 2026 in the school auditorium to celebrate the achievements of our students. Certificates were awarded for First, Second, and Third Place in the Mid-Year Examination Progress Reports, Discipline Certificates for exemplary behaviour, and awards for winners of the Mathematics Day 2026 and Management Science Day 2026 competitions.
To accommodate all students, two assemblies were conducted. The first was held for KS2 students before the interval, while the second was held for KS3 and KS4 students after the interval.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal congratulated the students who achieved outstanding examination results and encouraged all students to continue striving for academic excellence. He also commended the recipients of the Discipline Certificates, emphasizing that discipline remains a key value of the Sri Lankan School. Students were encouraged to follow the positive example set by their peers.
The Principal also congratulated the winners of the Mathematics Day and Management Science Day competitions for their dedication and achievement. In his concluding remarks, he expressed his appreciation to all teachers for their commitment and hard work in supporting students and contributing to the success of the school.

Enrollment Ceremony of the 1st Oman Girl Guides Company
The Enrollment Ceremony of the 1st Oman Girl Guides Company of Sri Lankan School Muscat was held on 14th June in the school auditorium, in a dignified and meaningful manner. The event was attended by the Principal, Deputy Principal, and Head of Academics as Chief Guests, along with parents of award recipients.
The ceremony recognized achievements across all sections. In the Butterflies Section, 20 members received Star Badges for completing their programme and preparing to move to the Little Friends Troop (LTF), while 15 were enrolled for their second year by Sylvanna, Ms. Tharushi.
In the LTF, 15 new members were enrolled, 14 received the Golden Bar Badge for completing Second Class Challenges, and 10 earned the Golden Hand Badge for completing First Class Challenges. These awards were presented by Sylvanna, Ms. Qureena.
In the Girl Guides Section, 13 members received their Second Class Awards from the Guide Captain.
The Principal praised the organizers, teachers, and parents, highlighting the importance of such programmes in building discipline, leadership, and life skills beyond academics.
The ceremony reflected the core values of the Girl Guides movement and celebrated the dedication and growth of its young members.
Inter-House Junior Debate 2026
The Inter-House Junior Debate was successfully held on Sunday, 7th June, showcasing the remarkable talent of our young students from Grades 6 to 9.
Four students from each house competed in the finals after being carefully selected through auditions and the preliminary rounds. The competition was both exciting and inspiring, as students passionately debated on the thought-provoking topic: “Being famous is better than being successful.”

Foundation and KS1 Vesak Celebration
A simple yet meaningful Vesak celebration was held on 2 June 2026 within the school premises for our Foundation and Key Stage 1 students.
The event was graced by the presence of our Principal, Deputy Principal, and Head of Academics, making the occasion even more special for our young learners.
Students enjoyed soft drinks and biscuits, thoughtfully provided to reflect the spirit of Dansal—a cherished Sri Lankan tradition of sharing and generosity during Vesak. This experience helped our children understand the values of kindness, compassion, and giving that are at the heart of the celebration.
It was a joyful and memorable day, fostering cultural awareness and the importance of caring and sharing within our school community.

Sri Lankan School Muscat Teachers Shine at Vesak Bakthi Gee Programme
Teachers of Sri Lankan School Muscat proudly participated in a Bakthi Gee programme organized by Sri Dharmodaya Dhamma School at Sri Sambuddhatwa Jayanthi Viharaya, Oman.
The event took place on Saturday, 6th June 2026, from 8.30 p.m. onwards, as part of the Vesak celebrations. It was a joyful and meaningful occasion, especially for our students who attend the Dhamma School. They were delighted to witness their own teachers including the Principal and Deputy Principal-performing Bakthi Gee. The event was attended by a large gathering, including the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Oman, and was organized under the patronage of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Oman.
After days of dedicated practice, the teachers presented three Bakthi Gee performances, which were warmly appreciated by the audience. Their participation was widely commended as a true source of inspiration for students and the wider community.
Mathematics Day 2026
Bringing Mathematics to Life
Sri Lankan School Muscat successfully celebrated Mathematics Day 2026 on 24 May 2026 under the theme “Maths Comes Alive: See It, Share It, Enjoy It!”. Organised by the Mathematics Department, the event gave students the opportunity to experience Mathematics beyond the classroom through fun, hands-on, and collaborative activities.
Approximately 720 students from Grades 3 to 10 actively participated in the programme. Students in Grades 3–5 took part in the Tangram Race Competition and Mathematics Mini Workshops, while Grades 6–10 enjoyed the Mathematics Escape Room Competition and engaging Mathematics Busking Sessions.
The Mini Workshops received a very positive response, as they encouraged students to think creatively and solve problems in different ways. The Busking Sessions, conducted by invited external facilitators, also created great excitement through mathematical puzzles, demonstrations, and challenges.
Mathematics Day 2026 successfully achieved its aim of making Mathematics visible, social, and enjoyable. The Mathematics Department extends its sincere appreciation to the School Management, staff, students, external facilitators, and all members of the SLSM community who supported this memorable event.
A Beautiful Act of Giving – First-Ever Dansal at Sri Lankan School Muscat
The Teachers’ Guild of Sri Lankan School Muscat proudly organized the first-ever Dansal in the school’s history on Saturday, 30th May, made possible through the generous contributions of our dedicated staff and well-wishers.
Dansal, a cherished Sri Lankan tradition, reflects the spirit of kindness, generosity, and compassion, where food is shared freely with all. This meaningful event is especially significant during the month of May, as Buddhists around the world celebrate the Vesak Festival.
This year’s Dansal was truly special, welcoming around 1,500 people from 5:30 PM onwards, who enjoyed a variety of refreshments including Chickpea, Kanji, noodles, milk coffee, and ice cream.
The event was declared open by the Chairman and Members of the Board, marking a proud and memorable moment for our school community.
From early morning preparations to the successful completion of the Dansal, the event showcased the incredible teamwork and unity of our faculty and staff, who worked tirelessly to make it a success.

During the assemblies, the school leadership-Head of Academics, the Deputy Principal and the principal addressed the students, highlighting the importance of language learning and the valuable opportunity provided to SLSM students to learn multiple languages. They also emphasized the global significance of English as a key language in education, travel, tourism, and commerce.
The event was especially memorable for the Year 1 and Year 2 students, many of whom proudly received their very first certificates.

Annual Scrabble Tournament – 2026
The Annual Scrabble Tournament of Sri Lankan School Muscat was successfully conducted on 25th April 2026, from 7.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 100 students, competing under the Junior and Senior categories.
The tournament was well planned, organized, and executed under the guidance of the Teacher-in-Charge of Scrabble, Mr. Lahiru de Silva, with the valuable support of the Scrabble Club teachers, along with the cooperation of all teachers and support staff. The meticulous planning was evident throughout the day, ensuring the smooth flow of the tournament.
Following a comprehensive introduction and detailed explanation of the tournament structure and rules by Mr. Lahiru de Silva, the Principal addressed the gathering. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of mind games such as Scrabble in enhancing students’ vocabulary, critical thinking, and cognitive skills, and he appreciated the enthusiasm and active participation of the students.
At the conclusion of the tournament, medals, trophies, and certificates were presented to the winners at the closing ceremony, which was held on the same day in the presence of the parents of the participants.
The event was a resounding success and served as a platform to encourage intellectual growth, healthy competition, and a love for word games among students.
Sinhala and Tamil New Year Celebration – Senior Section

The Senior Section of Sri Lankan School Muscat celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on Thursday, 23rd April, in a vibrant atmosphere reflecting Sri Lankan culture and traditions.
Students and teachers, dressed in traditional Avurudu attire, gathered to welcome the School Board and Management and ceremonially escorted them to the venue by the Anaberakaru. The celebrations began with traditional rituals, including the boiling of milk and preparation of Avurudu food, followed by the Principal’s address.
The programme featured colourful cultural performances such as traditional and folk dances, folk poetry, and Avurudu songs. Students enthusiastically participated in traditional games, including tug-of-war, Kana Mutti, counting pumpkin seeds, and Aliyata Aha Thabeema. The event concluded with the parade and crowning of the Avurudu Kumara and Kumariya in the school auditorium.
This grand celebration, involving all Senior Section students for the first time, was successfully organized under the leadership of Ms. Ruwandini Karunarathne, Head of the Other Languages Department, with the support of the faculty, staff, and parents. The generous contribution of traditional food by parents made the celebration even more special.

Singithi Aurudu Celebrations at Sri Lankan School, Muscat
Wednesday, 22nd April was a truly special day for the little ones of the Foundation and Key Stage 1 classes, as they came together to celebrate the traditional Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
The school was filled with colour and joy as all the children arrived dressed in beautiful traditional Sri Lankan Aurudu attire. The teachers also embraced the spirit of the New Year by wearing traditional dress. The celebrations officially began with the arrival of the Principal, Deputy Principal, and the Head of Academics.
A wide range of activities were thoughtfully planned for the children to learn and enjoy, including the traditional boiling of milk, an Aurudu food table, explanations and demonstrations of New Year rituals by the teachers, Aurudu songs and dances, as well as fun traditional games. Each activity created opportunities for the children to experience and appreciate Sri Lankan culture and traditions.
The Singithi Aurudu Celebration was wonderfully organized by Ms. Quirina and Ms. Kithmini, Heads of the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, together with their dedicated team of teachers. A big thank you to all of them for making this celebration a memorable and meaningful experience for our young learner
